HOW TO TAKE A DENTAL IMPRESSION AT HOME

When you order any of our custom fit products, we will need an dental impression of your teeth to ensure the best fit. When when you buy any of our custom fit products, we will send you an impression kit to allow you to take your own impression at home.

 

This may sound a little daunting, but it's a really simple process and we have provided some detailed information and instructions below to help guide you through the process. We have also created a video guide that you can watch prior to taking your impression.

We recommend that you read all instructions fully prior to starting the process so that you are better prepared.

REQUIREMENTS (What you will need to hand)

  • Stopwatch - to time the stages. (it is important to follow the times in all steps)

  • Mirror - to help take a good impression

​

Please read all the steps before you start

Please remove any removable appliance before taking your impression.​

 

PLEASE NOTE

​

  • Do not use in hot conditions.

  • Please store your impression putty in the fridge before use, use straight from the fridge.

  • The impression putty is a high grade dental material.

  • Material safety data information is available upon request.​

UPPER IMPRESSION

​

Step 1

​

  • Select upper tray. The upper tray is the full tray.

  • Try putting the tray in and out of your mouth before you start.

  • Please contact us if you are unsure about the tray size.

​

Step 2

​

  • Before starting wash and dry your hands thoroughly.

  • Take 2 moulds of putty 1 x colour and 1 x white out of the tubs and place them in your hands.

  • Mix the putties together in your hands until they form a putty of one colour. (45 seconds)

  • Roll into a sausage and place into the impression tray. (15 seconds)

  • Using your thumbs gently push the putty into the outer edge of the tray. You should not see the edge of the tray.

NB You have 1 minute for this step, please use the whole time given.

Step 3

​

  • Looking in a Mirror open your mouth as wide as you can and using both hands insert the impression tray into your mouth.

​

Step 4

​

  • Bite down as deep as you can. Do this until your teeth hit the bottom of the impression tray and hold it in position with your thumbs for 4 minutes.

Step 3 and 4 need to be completed within 25 seconds

​

Please ensure there is plenty of putty towards the front edges of the ray in order to capture both your teeth and gums, then bite a s deep as you can.

Step 5
 

  • After 4 minutes push your index fingers up into your cheeks until you feel the rim of the tray and gently pulled down until the tray comes free.

  • Rinse with cold water.

​

NB do not remove the putty from the impression tray.

 

UPPER IMPRESSION

​

Please follow steps 1-5 again, this time for your lower impression.

IMPRESSION GUIDE

GOOD IMPRESSION

You can see all of your teeth clearly in the impression tray. You can see a deep outline of your gum above your teeth.

BAD IMPRESSION        

Teeth look stretched and distorted. Bite is too shallow. No gum line is visible.

COMPLETED IMPRESSIONS

Place your completed impressions into the enclosed b ag with completed order form and return. Enclosed is a self-adhesive return address label you can stick this to the original postal envelope covering your address over.

We do not cover impression return postage this cost is yours.

We strongly advise sending your impressions back recorded delivery signed for.
